AGC Seminars
“Ethical Behavior in the Workplace”

You’ve seen the headlines, despaired over the fates of millions of customers, employees and taxpayers who have taken the fall because of unethical practices based on decisions made by corporate giants like Enron, WorldCom and AIG. To succeed in a world that is now demanding accountability, ethical behavior in the workplace must be adopted as a guiding principle.

At AGC Seminars, ethical behavior in the workplace is at the forefront of everything we do and everything we teach. Without a firm foundation in ethics, a business may succeed for a season, but over the long haul, it will fail as surely as any structure built of sand.

Workforce development is essential strategic and operational business planning ensure organizations consider the ‘people factor’ when developing and delivery their business.

Why Ethical Behavior in the Workplace is Essential

Business owners, leaders and employees who have respect for their organization avoid padding prices, using the company phone on company time for personal phone calls, keeping disheveled work and break areas and restrooms, stealing office supplies, faking sick days and improperly using company equipment. They realize that every breach of ethical behavior, no matter how small, can lead to a sense of entitlement, with the slippery slope standing just inches away. Every breach in ethical behavior in the workplace is a warning sign that someone is not taking care of business.

And sometimes the lapses of ethical behavior in the workplace are less discernible and more damaging in the long run than anything listed above. These kind of lapses include scapegoating (blaming others for missed deadlines bad decisions or poor results); letting the boss fail by not helpfully providing necessary information or pointing out risks; padding the budget in anticipation of cuts or an end-of-year spending spree to match estimates to actuals; over-promising to win customers, garnering support for a pet project, or avoiding a confrontation; turf-guarding; CYA meetings and memos to provide distance from a bad decision; under-delivering on commitments; avoiding risks because of the fear of consequences; and fudging when results are reported because “everyone else does it” and you need to stay competitive to get that raise or promotion.

These examples throw a vital spotlight on the need to devote significant time and attention to outlining and enforcing ethical behavior in the workplace. Without a firm foundation of morality, no business can last across time and find enough customers and clients to sustain it.

Contact us today to schedule a seminar on this foundational training. Unless an organization practices and promotes ethical behavior in the workplace, its fortunes are built on an always-quaking foundation.
